India’s first floating solar substation launches in Andhra

The Indian government has commissioned the country’s first floating solar substation at Pulicat Lake, Andhra Pradesh. The 5 MW pontoon-mounted solar array powers a local grid and floats on a buoyant structure. The installation includes remote monitoring, anti-corrosion coating, and fish-safe panels to preserve aquatic ecology. The government plans a second unit by 2027 in Odisha’s Chilika Lake.
